Intro Blog Week 16

So, what have you learned?I have learned so much from this class. At first, everything was unbelievable confusing. I honestly didn't think I would ever understand exactly what was happening with information retrieval but as the semester went on, things started to make more sense to me. I think the biggest thing that I have learned was that indexing is not as simple as I thought it was. There is so much more involved than I ever knew. I also learned how to use command line searching. I used to avoid using it because I was so unfamiliar with it but it is not as hard as I thought it would be and it actually helps. I also learned about the different search techniques, such as using the wildcard feature and using truncation. These have cut my search times by so much.

Are you a better searcher - is this a good/important thing?
I think becoming better at something is always a good and important thing. I think becoming a better searcher is definitely beneficial. I feel more confident in my searches and I have been able to find information faster and easier than I used to be able to

How can you pass your new searching/IR knowledge on to others?
I can help others learn the same techniques that I have learned. I think everyone can benefit from learning about how the information retrieval works both inside and out.
